Greyhound Bus Lines InfoGreyhound Bus Lines is the largest service for passengers in the North America. They are serving about 2.200 US destinations.
Its famous name comes from the fastes dog which is used in popular greyhound dog racing and greyhound betting (popular for its spectactors).
It took nearly a century for Greyhound company to become this large. Many years of acquisition and expansion. Their growth between 1920 and 1930 was so fast that Interstate Commerce Commission had to encourage smaller operators to create NTBS (National Trailway Bus System) to compete with Greyhound bus lines.
Recently, the Greyhound was criticised for their assignment practises. Bus tickets have printed times and dates, but there is no seating guarantee and it is on first come first served basis. So passangers may wait few hours for the next bus.
During last years the company was expanding its services to sightseeing services and is the biggest Gray Line Sightseeing Tours franchises operator. The company took some steps to improve their image among the public, because bus transits are now less desirable way of travel so they had to refurbushing terminals, adding more new buses and adding terminal associates to help clients with their needs.
There is also another Greyhound bus carrier in Australia for a long distance route, but it is not related to the one in the USA. |
